Isaias Afwerki the president of the eight year independent country Eritrea, was a soldier. He was
a fighter and a political leader in Eritrea. Isaias is a well respected man he fought for better
things for the Eritrean people and for the countries history.
Isaias Afwerki has been the president of Eritrea ever since the year Eritrea got its Independence
on May 24,1993. Before the years of Independence Isaias Afwerki was part of the Eritrean People's
Liberation Front, which was a group of people that were going to fight against Ethiopians in the
war between Eritrea and Ethiopia. They were fighting for the right to live in a free country,
which meant to walk down the streets of Asmara the capital of Eritrea with no fear of some
Ethiopian Government going to snatch you up.
Isaias was born in Asmara Eritrea in a little village. Isaias went to school in Decemhare
and finished school in Asmara. He had love for Asmara and wanted very much to reconstruct the
Government as well as the city, the roads and the people that were destroyed from the thirty year
war that ended earlier in 1993 between Ethiopia.
With this new freedom, Eritrea became an member of the world political economy,
which rates it one of the poorest countries in the world. "Its annual per capita
income is under $200, well below the sub-Saharan Africa average of $350." But Eritrea
is not a "lost cause", its President Isaias Afwerki plans to transform his new nation.
